A glow plug, also spelled as glow-plug or glowplug, serves as a heating apparatus employed to assist in the starting process of diesel engines. This plug takes the form of a slender metal rod with a heating element located at its tip. When electric current flows through the heating element, it generates heat due to its electrical resistance. Consequently, the glow plug begins to emit visible light, which explains its “glow” designation. The phenomenon is akin to the operation of a toaster, where the heat generated facilitates the engine’s ignition.
